What's it all about?:

This dynamic course is designed to develop the wide-ranging skills needed to succeed in the Travel, Tourism, Events, and Hospitality industries. You’ll build essential front-of-house expertise, learn how to plan and organise events, conferences, and functions, and gain a strong understanding of how the travel and tourism sector operates.

Alongside practical experience, you’ll explore the responsibilities of supervisors and managers, developing the confidence and leadership skills needed to guide teams and deliver exceptional customer experiences. From creating travel packages and coordinating memorable events to managing people and delivering outstanding service, this course equips you with everything you need to step into a fast-paced, people-focused industry with confidence and creativity.

2 years – minimum 3 days a week

Free to those aged 16-18

There is a range of financial support that you may be entitled to, including: Learner Support funds, grants and bursaries and employer support.

Additional course costs of approx. £100 a year will apply. This will cover the cost of educational visits, textbooks, guest speakers etc.

What will I do?:

The course consists of 4 Mandatory Units and up to 14 Optional Units. These include:

  • The UK Events Industry
  • Hospitality in the Travel & Tourism industry
  • Marketing in the Industry
  • Customer Service in Travel, Tourism and Events
  • Preparing for a Career in the Industry
  • Event Organisation in Hospitality
  • UK Visitor Events and Attraction Sites
  • Travel & Tourism Destinations
  • Planning and Managing an Event

What to Expect?:

You’ll take part in hands-on, real-world experiences that bring your learning to life. This includes our annual Charity Children’s Christmas Party, where you’ll help plan, set up, deliver, and clear down a large-scale event for up to 850 children with disabilities and learning difficulties, providing a festive lunch, entertainment, disco, and VIP guests.

You’ll also design and deliver themed night activities, gaining practical event-planning skills as you create and run exciting events as part of your Planning an Event unit.

What can I do next?:

You can progress to a Level 4 Hospitality Manager apprenticeship or move directly into employment across a wide range of roles, including Event Co-ordinator, Food and Beverage Supervisor, Guest Service Co-ordinator, Hotel Management, Holiday Package Designer, Tour Operator, or Itinerary Designer.

Careers:

The Travel, Tourism and Hospitality industry offers a wide range of exciting career opportunities, and this course provides clear pathways into a successful future within the sector. You could find yourself delivering hospitality in VIP and Escape lounges at London Stansted Airport, preparing food for restaurants or airline catering, or working with some of the world’s leading tour operators.

Opportunities also include roles in international hotels, Michelin-starred restaurants, and the planning, hosting, and management of events. For those with an entrepreneurial mindset, there is also the potential to build and run your own holiday planning or events business.

All enrolled students at Stansted Airport College will be eligible to lease an Apple device to enable them to learn where and when they want. All students will are expected to have use of an iPad for their learning, in the majority of cases through a lease-to-buy scheme.

As part of your course, you may be required to attend sessions at the Harlow College campus to complete specific units and gain hands-on experience.
